Bowling and Bifocals
Wearing bifocals is not new to me – I got my first pair of progressive lens type bifocals almost five years ago. I made the mistake of getting the anti-glare coating on them – that scratched too easily. When I went back after that pair I tried contacts for a while but that was eye pain and headaches. So this time around I went with the progressive bifocals and transition type lenses. Right away I knew something wasn’t right, I noticed when I walked downstairs I was seeing the bifocal. I didn’t have that problem with the last pair. Then when driving just looking left or right I was seeing through the edge of the progressive lens. I had to wear the glasses half way down my nose just to drive.
Friday and Saturday were just too manic to go back to have the glasses checked. Saturday I spent 14 hours working with a client after a database conversion. So Monday I head back to Lenscrafter’s and try to explain my dilemma. Supposedly the measurements were correct for how they measure – from the center of the pupil. I didn’t have my old pair of bifocals; I had donated them to their eyeglass drive the last time I was there. I still had my sunglasses though and there truly was a measurable difference! My old bifocals had been measured from my lower eyelid not my pupil. So new measurements where taken and while I was there I took advantage of the 100% guarantee and got different frames –seem some new styles had come in just the past few days that I liked better.
The summer league started last night and it had been a while since I bowled with bifocals on. It probably would have been harder with the other pair. I suppose I should not have set a 219 average the first night – but what the heck it’s the summer and it’s a No-Tap league.
